What's New in WBL Career Pathways?

The new school year has started off strong. WBL Career Pathways hit the ground running and this year we mean business! In less than 1 month, the WBL Career Pathways Team visited 47 Career Pathway courses and recruited students for the new Career Pathways model.

For the first time, students committed to a specific career pathway can now register. Registered students will see the specific Career Pathway in their school schedule. The pathway does not replace any courses. Rather, it is a signal to the student's support team to communicate that the student is ready to take the next step. As of today, 305 students have registered to be in either the Automotive, Business, Construction Skilled Trades, Education, Engineering & Manufacturing, Health & Wellness, or Information Technology Career Pathway. 

Registered students receive career coaching, alumni support, and first dibs on "all things career pathways." You can learn more about career pathway classes, opportunities, and benefits HERE. As of October 1, our team has already had over 50 one-on-one coaching sessions!

Be on the lookout for exclusive Employability Skills Training for Business Career Pathway students, National Manufacturing Month celebrations, and post-secondary visits galore! Employers and Industry Partners like you continue to make a difference by offering job opportunities, job shadows, paid internships, scholarships, equipment donations, and more. WBLAHS Graduate Spotlight

Meet Mckenna Tyren! Mckenna was a Healthcare Career Pathway student who graduated in 2020. She is currently working as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at Regions Hospital. "When I started at Regions I was hired on to a general medicine/observation unit. On that unit we take care of a variety of patients ranging from pre-operation, post-operation, cardiac monitoring, and much more. I currently get floated around the hospital if other units are short a PCA. I like getting floated because I gain more experience, learn more about the medical field, and it helps me figure out what I want to specialize in" says Mckenna.

Today, McKenna is attending school at Century College and is taking her Pre-Nursing classes. She plans to apply for the Nursing Program in Fall 2022. Once she finishes her ASN, she plans to complete her BSN. Mckenna said that "Career Pathways helped prepare me for life after high school because I took the CNA class. Having the opportunity to take that class in high school gave me a head start to my nursing career because right after taking the class I knew I was meant to be a Nurse and started working at Cerenity Senior Care." In the future, Mckenna plans to work as a Travel Nurse. Once she settles down she will become a Trauma Nurse either in an ER or Trauma Surgical Unit. We are so proud of you Mckenna!

Construction Career Pathway is Looking for Equipment Donations

We are now offering Construction Career Pathway Courses at WBLAHS - South Campus, as well as, WBLAHS - North Campus and WBLAHS - ALC. If you are a company that has any desire to help out, our Construction Career Pathway Teacher is currently looking for the following equipment pieces.
