This course provides the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. Students will learn to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide two-rescuer and team-based resuscitation, provide rescue breaths, use a bag mask device, an AED, and relieve choking. Adult, child, and infant rescue techniques will be covered. The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification, which is required for the ARCC Nursing program and many healthcare professions, can be earned. AHA basic life support performance standards will be followed.

Students can earn college credit for this course through concurrent enrollment with Anoka-Ramsey Community College. Students must meet the required GPA to register for the course: 10th - 3.0 or higher, 11th and 12th - 2.6 or higher

Students who register for this course will have their transcript sent to the partnering institution to determine eligibility for college credit.

Passing a test and paying a nominal fee are required for certification.
